The Community Center is an Illinois not-for-profit organization that was incorporated in 1975 for the purpose of providing recreational, social and educational programs for the residents of River Forest and surrounding communities. The Community Center does not have any direct taxing authority and derives the majority of its operating budget from program user fees. Other sources of revenue include fundraising, grants, special events and donations.
During the past year the Community Center has continued its partnerships and strengthened its relationships with a number of other local agencies and service providers including Oak Park River Forest High School (OPRFHS), Opportunity Knocks, River Forest Township, Oak Park/River Forest Township Youth Services (OPRFTYS) and West Cook YMCA. These cooperative efforts have proven to be extremely successful and have enabled each of the organizations to expand program opportunities for its participants.
In addition to the state licensed child care programs, the Community Center also provides a variety of recreational and educational programs for people of all ages including programs for children, birthday parties, youth instructional programs, sports programs, classes for adults and activities for seniors.
The child care site in the high school has enabled the Community Center to expand its child care program to include infants and is licensed by the State of Illinois Department of Children and Family Services for children ages 6 weeks through 5 years old. The Community Center’s child care site in River Forest is licensed for children ages 3 -12 and offers a variety of program options for full or partial day child care.
As always, the Community Center prides itself on offering quality programs at a reasonable cost and will continue to explore the development of new programs when practical.
Participants and visitors are encouraged to access information at the Community Center’s web site at www.rfcc.info. The Community Center sincerely appreciates the support of all of our program participants and welcomes the opportunity to provide programs to meet the needs of the community in the future.
