The River Forest Community Center is an Illinois not-for-profit organization that was incorporated in 1975 for the purpose of providing recreational, social and educational programs for the residents of River Forest and surrounding communities. The Community Center does not tax residents. It is a self-supporting organization that derives its operating budget from program user fees.
During 2014, the Community Center completed several building improvements including the installation of new flooring and upgrades ti the hallway and common area on the first floor. Another major project that was also completed during the past year was an upgrade to all light fixtures in the building to more energy efficient fixtures as one of the “green initiatives” that was undertaken by the Center. As part of its continuing efforts to serve program participants, the Community Center has planned additional building renovations during 2015, including improvements to the rooms, hallways and common areas on the second floor.
The Community Center has continued to strengthen its partnerships with several other local agencies and service providers. During the past year, two of our partner organizations, opportunity Knocks and Oak Park & River Forest High School’s Community Integrated Transition Education (CITE) program, expanded the program which they offer at the Community Center. These cooperative program efforts have been very successful and enable each of the respective organizations to increase program opportunities for participants.
During the past year, the Community Center also increased its presence on social media and undertook a number of initiatives to promote its programs and services including:
*publishing a monthly e-newsletter that contains information about programs and activities
*improving its website and making it more user-friendly and easier to navigate between program areas
*upgrading its Facebook page
*developing a Twitter account
In addition to these steps, the Community Center will be adding on-line program registration as an option for participants starting in the spring.
As always, the Community Center prides itself on offering quality programs at a reasonable cost and would like to thank our participants for their continued support. We look forward to seeing you in one of our programs in the future!
