During the past year the Community Center and Oak Park River Forest High School (OPRFHS) developed a cooperative space sharing agreement in which the Community Center assumed the responsibility of operating the child care program located at OPRFHS.In return, the Community Center became the home for the Community Integrated Transition Education (CITE) program that OPRFHS provides for its students. This cooperative effort between the Community Center and OPRFHS has proven to be extremely successful and has enabled both organizations to expand programming opportunities for its participants.
The child care site in the high school has enabled the Community Center to expand its child care program to include infants and is licensed by the State of Illinois Department of Children and Family Services for children ages 6 weeks through 5 years old. The Community Center’s child care site in River Forest is licensed for children ages 3 -12 and offers a variety of program options for full or partial day child care.
In addition to the state licensed child care programs, the Community Center also provides a variety of recreational and educational programs for people of all ages including programs for children, birthday parties, youth instructional programs, sports programs, classes for adults and activities for seniors.
The Community Center is an Illinois not-for-profit organization that was incorporated in 1975 for the purpose of providing recreational, social and educational programs for the residents of River Forest and surrounding communities. The Community Center does not have any direct taxing authority and derives the majority of its operating budget from program user fees. Other sources of revenue include fundraising, grants, special events and donations.
As always, the Community Center prides itself on offering quality programs at a reasonable cost and will continue to explore the development of new programs when practical.
The Community Center sincerely appreciates the support of all of our program participants and welcomes the opportunity to provide programs to meet the needs of the community in the future. On behalf of the Community Center I would encourage you to visit our facility and participate in one of our programs.
