Program Offerings

Did you know that the River Forest Community Center
  1. totally self-supporting and does NOT appear on your tax bill?
  2. is a separate organization that is NOT part of the Park District?

Although much has been written about a potential merger between the Community Center and Park District during the past six months, a merger has not occurred. All merger discussions have been discontinued due to the Park District’s inability to satisfactorily answer a number of key questions including the financial impact that a merger would have on village taxpayers and, equally as important, the impact on existing RFCC programs, staff and program participants. The Community Center’s complete response to the Park District can be viewed in the Latest News section.

The Community Center’s Board of Governors is committed to the success of the organization and has repeatedly stated its willingness to work with the Park District to develop cooperative programs. However, it is also the opinion of the Community Center’s board that cooperative programs can be developed without the agencies being merged.

The Community Center is an Illinois not-for-profit organization that was incorporated in 1975 for the purpose of providing recreational, social and educational programs for the residents of River Forest and surrounding communities. The Community Center does not have any direct taxing authority and derives the majority of its operating budget from program user fees. Other sources of revenue include fundraising, grants, special events and donations.

The Community Center provides a variety of recreational and educational programs for people of all ages including State licensed child care and preschool programs for children, birthday parties, youth instructional programs, sports programs, classes for adults and activities for seniors. As always, the Community Center prides itself on offering quality programs at a reasonable cost and will continue to explore the development of new programs when practical.

The Community Center sincerely appreciates the support of all of our program participants and welcomes the opportunity to provide programs to meet the needs of the community in the future. On behalf of the Community Center I would encourage you to visit our facility and participate in one of our programs.
